23-year-old Jaqueline Cristian has reached a second-successive WTA quarter-final after coming through the qualifiers at the Linz Open to beat Kamilla Rakhimova and Rebecca Peterson. The Romanian is up to her career-high WTA world ranking of 100^th for a brilliant bedrock to jump from next season but this looks a tough ask against world number 32 Veronika Kudermetova. The Russian lost both of her matches at the inaugural Billie Jean King Cup last week but still finished on the winning side as the Russian Tennis Federation lifted the title. She beat Anhelina Kalinina from a set down on Tuesday to reach this stage and the fourth seed looks like a level above Cristian at this moment in time. Still, the Romanian has played well enough to opt for just the outright victory for Kudermetova here.
