World number 20 Gael Monfils has led a charmed life so far at the Sofia Open after receiving a bye to the second round as the second seed, a walkover to the quarter-finals and then a routine straight-sets win over Gianluca Mager. If he treats world number 67 Marcos Giron with the cautious he deserves after another excellent week on tour, the Frenchman should make it through to the final for a really enticing potential clash with Jannik Sinner. 28-year-old Giron will have plenty to say about that, though, after putting in a composed straight-sets win over John Millman the day after a fabulous victory over third seed Alex de Minaur. The American is full of hard graft and work rate and that kind of match-up would have seen Monfils lose earlier this year with no crowds to support him. Here, though, with a likely majority backing him, take Monfils to reach the final.
