Reka-Luca Jani was only able to finish her round of 16 match over Anna Kalinskaya this morning having started it on Wednesday, whilst Viktoriya Tomova beat Leylah Fernandez over three sets afterwards and will be forced to play this quarter-final just a few hours later. Tomova and Jani share a 10-1 head-to-head record with a win apiece on clay but world number 123 Tomova was the most recent winner at Roland-Garros last season in similar conditions to this week and that could be a deciding factor here. This match has plenty of outside factor about it with weather delays and fatigue likely so it could be worth avoiding altogether. However, if pushed for a winner it should be Tomova, ranked almost 100 places higher than her Hungarian opponent, who reaches the semis.
