30-year-old Grigor Dimitrov is enjoying a strong campaign in San Diego almost a month since his last tournament where he was forced to retire in the second round of the US Open. The Bulgarian has not won a title on tour since the pinnacle of his career at the 2017 ATP Finals but he should never be written off and world number 10 Casper Ruud will have to maintain his blistering level to beat him. 22-year-old Ruud has proven he is more than just a world class clay player in recent weeks with statement wins on hardcourts against Reilly Opelka at the Laver Cup and two very strong performances over Andy Murray and Lorenzo Sonego in San Diego. The Norwegian has won four titles on tour this season, including three in a row, but he is still chasing a first title off of his favoured clay surface. He has a superb chance of changing that this week and he should be the man to reach the final from this first meeting.
