THE PREDICTION
Silicon Valley Classic fourth seed Daria Kasatkina came back from a set down to beat Caroline Garcia in the round of 16 and the Russian looks in good shape following an intermittent grass court season. The world number 31 faces Magda Linette next after the Pole put in one of her best results of the year to beat the sixth seed Petra Martic in straight sets. The 29-year-old has put her Olympic disappointment behind her well to transition quickly to LA and this looks a really competitive quarter-final. Linette was the winner in their only previous meeting with a straight-set result at the 2018 Australian Open but Kasatkina has been on a well-documented journey back to this version of herself since. This match could still go either way though but take the Russian to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable of winners.
