THE PREDICTION
Croatia’s Ana Konjuh has struggled with injury for much of the season but when she is fit and firing she looks a really excellent player. The 23-year-old beat the ninth seed Alison Riske in comfortable straight sets on Thursday to reach her third quarter-final of 2021 and the world number 116 and former 2013 Girls’ US Open champion has plenty of potential to reach. Konjuh has beat her next opponent, Shuai Zhang, in their only previous tour-level meeting at the 2017 Dubai Open but the 32-year-old Chines star has been superb so far this week. World number 51 Zhang beat the third seed Madison Keys on Thursday in two tough sets and looks the likelier player to come through here, although this result is a tough one to call with any degree of certainty. For that reason, take Zhang to win at least a set here and leave the winner up to chance.
