World number 101 Peter Gojowczyk’s run to the round of 16 at the US Open earlier this month was nothing short of superb and the German looks to have continued that form into the Moselle Open. The 32-year-old has been around the block before but beating the seventh seed Karen Khachanov in straight sets amounts to his best result on tour for some time and he will fancy his chances against world number 69 Marcos Giron. The 28-year-old American was not to be outdone, though, after claiming one of his biggest results of the year with a straight-sets victory over an out-of-sorts Alex de Minaur. This first meeting between Giron and Gojowczyk has more questions than answers, especially considering their excellent results in the round of 16, and could be worth leaving alone. If there were an angle here, a decider seems a distinct possibility between two hard-grafters so you could opt for three sets at a push.
