THE PREDICTION
World number one Ash Barty came through a tough quarter-final clash with Petra Kvitova on Wednesday afternoon, maintaining her strong performances on clay so far. However, she will face a home favourite her in Paula Badosa and the 23-year-old Spaniard is one of just three women to beat her this season. Badosa overcame the eighth seed Belinda Bencic in a confident display to reach the semi-finals here and she will be hoping to emulate her performance at last month’s Charleston Open when she beat Barty in straight sets on clay. Barty is just one year older than Badosa but her experience at this level should favour the Aussie and the occasion will be something to manage for world number 62 Badosa, though the Spaniard looks well capable of taking a set here. Take Barty to win this rematch outright, or Badosa to win at least a set. This is a tough one to call for sure, though, and Badosa winning this in Madrid would not be a huge surprise.
