THE PREDICTION
World number 58 Tommy Paul did well to beat Pedro Martinez in straight sets on Sunday to reach the second round of the Madrid Open but he has not been rewarded kindly for his efforts. The American will have to face Andrey Rublev for a third time having lost to the Russian on both previous occasions and most recently on clay at the Hamburg Open last year that Rublev went on to win. World number seven Rublev has taken a week or so off to recalibrate after a disappointing campaign at the Barcelona Open by his standards and it will be interesting to see how well he starts his first match in Madrid. 23-year-old Tommy Paul is not currently at his very best and it would take that level to force a decider here whilst Rublev has a point to prove so take the Russian to win in two.
