World number 11 Roberto Bautista Agut has been in fine form this season but has struggled against the new kids on the scene in recent tournaments, with his last four defeats coming against Jannik Sinner on three occasions and Andrey Rublev. The 33-year-old is well loved by his own fans for his excellent displays at the Davis Cup and more recently the ATP Cup and he will gather some of the bigger crowds in the early stages of the Madrid Open. Bautista Agut faces a clay-court specialist in world number 104 Marco Cecchinato, who came through the qualifiers strongly to make the main draw, but the Italian should not be too much of a challenge for the 33-year-old. RBA beat Cecchinato in straight sets the last time they met and it should be more of the same here.
