World number 100 Pedro Martinez put in a strong display at the Estoril Open but lost to finalist Cameron Norrie in three sets last Thursday. In the week previous, the 24-year-old Spaniard was forced to retire from the first meeting against Tommy Paul in their first round of the Monte-Carlo Masters and so Paul is likely to find a totally different player in Madrid. Limited crowds should come to Martinez’ aid even further but world number 58 Paul is a solid competitor on this surface too and remains the favourite to progress.
