24-year-old Hubert Hurkacz broke into the top 20 of the ATP world rankings for the first time last month after winning his first Masters singles event at the Miami Open. The Pole then struggled to replicate the feat in Monte-Carlo, though he appeared to have fallen ill against Dan Evans in the round of 16 there and has taken an extended rest from the tour ahead of the Madrid Masters. The world number 16 will be one to watch if he enters refreshed and ready to go, though it remains to be seen how effective he is on clay. Taking him on will be 31-year-old John Millman for a second meeting between the pair, with the Aussie winning in straight-sets at the 2020 Australian Open the first time they played each other. Millman can easily win this if Hurkacz is not at his best and this match could be worth leaving alone until we see how the world number 16 is playing. The likeliest outcome here, though, is for a full-strength Hurkacz to win this in two.
