World number 49 Cam Norrie is through to his third semi-final of the year in what is proving to be his best season yet after a three-set slog against Arthur Rinderknech in Lyon. The 25-year-old was forced to play the deciding set of his quarter-final this morning after rain disrupted their Friday afternoon match but he played exceptionally well and it could suit him to have had some match practice already on Saturday. World number 26 Karen Khachanov played with freedom and confidence against Richard Gasquet yesterday to reach the semi-finals here with little fuss this week and this will be the third meeting in 2021 between the two. One win apiece reads for an exciting semi-final but Norrie was the more recent victor and on clay at that with a three-set victory at last month’s Barcelona Open. Three sets looks a likely outcome for this semi-final too and could be worth opting for instead of a result between two robust players well capable of going the distance.
