THE PREDICTION
This is a surprising first ever meeting between 34-year-old Richard Gasquet and 24-year-old Karen Khachanov but a wonderful setting for the two to finally face each other in the quarter-finals of the Lyon Open. Gasquet is a home favourite here in his native France and played as such against the third seed Diego Schwartzman on Thursday, breaking the Argentine early in both of two sets to make the quarter-finals for the first time. World number 26 Khachanov has taken out two players in good form in Benjamin Bonzi and Kamil Majchrzak but this will be a tougher test in front of a crowd unlikely to back him at all. The Russian enjoyed the best win of his career so far in Paris back in 2018 but he has struggled with form for the best part of a year now and that makes this result far from secure. Khachanov should be winning this one but take Gasquet to win at least a set in this form and in front of these fans.
