Both world numbers 49 Cameron Norrie and 125 Arthur Rinderknech claimed the biggest wins of their careers yesterday in Lyon, in terms of rankings at least, with Norrie taking out an out-of-sorts Dominic Thiem and Rinderknech coming back from a set down to beat Jannik Sinner. 25-year-old Norrie’s straight-sets win over world number four Thiem was exceptional but the story of the day was probably Rinderknech’s incredible fight back to beat Sinner in front of strong home support for the Frenchman and that could be the difference here. Norrie has enjoyed the best form of his career throughout this 2021 season, with one of the best winning percentages on tour of 21-10, and he should be the winner of this first meeting on form. However, Rinderknech, will be jubilant, if a little tired, after his fourth-straight three-set win here in Lyon and the crowd could pull him over the line once again. Taking Norrie to win at least a set here is the wisest, if safest option.
