THE PREDICTION
World number 49 Cameron Norrie was prolific in beating the Lyon Open eighth seed Karen Khachanov 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon just a few hours after completing his quarter-final win over Arthur Rinderknech. The 25-year-old is through to his second ever ATP final and both have come in this month after he just lost out to Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Estoril Open via a deciding tiebreak. It is unlikely to come as close here but the British number two has been one of the most impressive players on tour this season – this week surpassing Jannik Sinner and Aslan Karatsev into third place on the overall win/loss record in 2021 with 23 wins to 10 losses. However, Norrie faces the man at the top of that particular table in world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas, who conceded the first set to Lorenzo Musetti on Saturday before coming through in convincing fashion and the Greek is one match away from winning the Lyon Open he was favourite for.
This could be a fascinating battle and Norrie’s precision and never-say-die attitude could frustrate Tsitsipas at times but the 22-year-old is simply too good at this moment in time to lose this final to anyone other than likely suspects Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic. Take Tsitsipas to win this outright, though probably in two.
