THE PREDICTION
This should be a fascinating first tour-level meeting between friends, compatriots and seasoned doubles partners Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova. The pair won the Roland-Garros Women’s Doubles title just over a month ago and reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last week and both Czechs should be received well in a celebratory quarter-final here on Friday. World number 13 Krejcikova has to be the favourite to come through considering she has won two of the last four tournaments in which she has played, and lost to the eventual champions of the other two in Iga Swiatek and Ash Barty at the Italian Open and Wimbledon, respectively.
However, if there is a player on tour who knows the 25-year-old’s weaknesses it is world number 63 Siniakova. Siniakova’s own form has vastly improved alongside her long-time doubles partner and she reached the final of the Bad Homburg Open late last month before also losing to Barty at Wimbledon the round before Krejcikova. Take the second seed Krejcikova to win outright here in what could well go to three sets but Siniakova should not be underestimated.
