World number 241 Lucia Bronzetti has reached the quarter-final of the Lausanne Ladies Open in what appears to be her very first WTA tournament which is stupendous work for the 22-year-old. Having spent most of the last few years on the ITF circuit, the Italian beat in-form Anna Blinkova on Thursday in one of the only matches unaffected by Lausanne’s poor weather this week and she now faces an incredible opportunity against the first seed Tamara Zidansek. World number 50 Zidansek reached a career-high 46th back in June after storming through to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros and the Slovenian has an excellent chance at winning a first WTA title this week – if the rain ever stops. Bronzetti is a complete unknown at this tournament but her momentum cannot be underestimated. Take Zidansek to win at least a set here as the overwhelming favourite facing a potential banana skin.
