THE PREDICTION
World number 82 Lorenzo Musetti is a home favourite here in Rome and will be well-supported by limited crowds throughout his campaign after breaking through at last year’s delayed September edition of the Italian Open. The 19-year-old was in control against Hubert Hurkacz before the Pole was forced to retire through injury but that will only serve to bolster the Italian’s resolve with Hurkacz a really tough first round pick. He should have an easier time of it against 23-year-old Reilly Opelka here with the American doing well to beat Richard Gasquet on Sunday but still not quite up to his level best yet and this is his weaker surface. Musetti will take some stopping in this tournament and the prospect of facing either of Aslan Karatsev and Daniil Medvedev in the next round will be all the motivation he needs to come through this second round match, probably in two.
