The world number 45 has always been a competitive player on clay but the surface has suited his return from a long lay-off and he looks to be getting sharper with each match, That should concern world number 12 Pablo Carreno Busta after the Spaniard’s form has started to wane a little in recent weeks. The 29-year-old lost in three to Federico Delbonis last week in Madrid and fell behind against Laslo Djere here on Sunday before rallying to win. Nishikori and PCB share a 1-1 head-to-head record with a victory each at the Australian Open over the years, the Spaniard most recently in the first round back in February.
