THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Diego Schwartzman struggled to get over the line in his first round match against Aslan Karatsev last week in Madrid and lost from a winning position to the Russian in disappointing circumstances. The altitude in Madrid does make it a wholly unique tournament, though, and the conditions here in Rome should suit the Argentine much better, as indeed they have in the recent past as the 29-year-old finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic here last season. Confidence is all Schwartzman needs to get his clay-court season up and running and whilst Felix Auger-Aliassime is a terribly tough first match at the Italian Open, Schwartzman leads their head-to-head record 1-0 so far with a win at Cologne 2 last year and the Canadian is still fully finding his feet on clay. 20-year-old Auger-Aliassime is well capable of winning this match and even more so of forcing a decider so you could take either Schwartzman to win at least a set here or for there to be three sets in this match.
