THE PREDICTION
World number two Daniil Medvedev and number 27 Aslan Karatsev are friends and compatriots off the court and together they were part of a fabulous Team Russia win at the ATP Cup in January. It was at that tournament that 25-year-old Medvedev warned the tennis world about “secret weapon” Karatsev and since then the 27-year-old has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open as a qualifier, won his first title at the ATP 500 Dubai Open and more recently beat Novak Djokovic at the Serbia Open. This is an absolutely mouth-watering first meeting on tour between the two Russians but Medvedev’s form is currently nowhere near his peak after a month lay-off with covid-19 throughout April. He was at half capacity last week in Madrid where he lost to Cristian Garin in the round of 16 and a blunter Medvedev makes this an entirely difficult pick. Definitely watch what should be an incredible match on Tuesday evening but the winner will likely only become apparent towards the end of what could be a long one.
