THE PREDICTION
World number nine Matteo Berrettini was much more assured in beating John Millman in straight sets on Wednesday after a tough opening round contest with Nikoloz Basilashvili the day before. The Italian looks ready for a tougher test now and has found it in world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas, who beat Marin Cilic in a pretty robust straight-sets win on Wednesday to reach the round of 16. Tsistipas started the clay-court season off with aplomb at the Monte-Carlo Masters but has since lost to Rafael Nadal in Barcelona and Casper Ruud in Madrid. He beat Berrettini in their only previous encounter on a hard court back at the 2019 Australian Open but this playing field looks a little more level. Tsitsipas should be winning this, most likely in three, but Berrettini’s recent form puts this match in the question mark category. Berrettini’s serving has been exceptional of late and that took him all the way to the Madrid final last Sunday, so opting for at least a tiebreak in this match and leaving a winner up to chance looks a good alternative here.
