THE PREDICTION
World number nine Matteo Berrettini took the first set in his first ever Masters final on Sunday but eventually finished runner-up to a masterful performance by Alexander Zverev at the Madrid Open. The Italian had won the Serbia Open the week previous and should be able to continue that excellent form through to a home tournament he will be expected to perform well at but the disappointment on Sunday will have to be managed. He will face Nikoloz Basliashvili for a fourth time and leads their head-to-head record 2-1, though Baslashvili was the winner of their only previous clay encounter. World number 30 Basilashvili has had a weird season to say the least having won two ATP titles whilst also struggling for consistency on tour but he should find this tie too difficult on Tuesday morning. Berrettini was superb all last week, even in defeat in the final, and the Italian will be a player to watch for a deep run again here in Rome. Take the 25-year-old to win in straight sets.
