30-year-old Dan Evans continued his strong clay-court form into the Madrid Open last week with two sturdy three-set victories over Jeremy Chardy and John Millman but the Brit was unfortunate to draw an in-form Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. He will face 23-year-old Taylor Fritz for the first time here and will be confident of getting the job done in this first round match. Fritz has lost in the first round of his last two tournaments in Barcelona and Madrid and the American has struggled to find consistency for the best part of a year now. He is still a dangerous opponent and is well capable of forcing a deciding set here so take Evans to win this first meeting outright.
