35-year-old Kevin Anderson’s form can change from week to week right now but the popular South African claimed his seventh career title back in July at the Hall of Fame Open. The former world number five is a tough man to predict due to his fairly chronic fitness issues but he is always a dangerous opponent to draw and world number 76 Jordan Thompson is not in the best of form himself right now. The 27-year-old has performed well at Grand Slams this season with battling wins over the likes of Casper Ruud and Kei Nishikori but he failed to qualify for the San Diego Open last week.
THE PREDICTION
World number 69 Anderson has reached the quarter-finals at Indian Wells on three previous occasions, including his last appearance in 2018 where he lost to Borna Coric. Matches involving the big South African are always worth leaving out of an accumulator with several retirements this year and this match looks to close to call with confidence with Thompson also hard to predict right now. If there were an option to take it could be at least one tiebreak in the match, with both able to take sets down to the wire, but this match is probably best left alone.
