World number 48 Albert Ramos-Vinolas claimed his third career ATP title this season via a three-set win over Cam Norrie in the Estoril Open final. The 33-year-old is a clay specialist to the last drop but he is a tricky opponent as a left-hander full of running and he can trouble most players in the draw at Indian Wells on his day. He face world number 62 Lorenzo Musetti in the first round with a solid chance at coming through considering the Italian’s recent poor form. Still only 19, Musetti exploded onto the public scene earlier this year with an incredible run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros where he took the first two sets against eventual champion before losing in three.
THE PREDICTION
19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti clearly has a big future ahead of him in the game but his five-set defeat to Novak Djokovic at Roland-Garros back in June seems to have spent all his energy for 2021. The Italian has won just twice since then and a loss to Dimitar Kuzmanov, ranked outside the top 200, last week in Sofia is poor by his standards. Neither of Musetti or Ramos-Vinolas is playing with their ideal conditions here in their first ever meeting but it will be youth versus experience through and through. The occasion of Indian Wells is sure to excite Musetti but right now Ramos-Vinolas is the man in better form. Take the Spaniard to win at least a set here in a tricky one to call.
