26-year-old Yulia Putintseva is living up to her billing as the Hungarian Grand Prix’s top seed with back-to-back straight-sets victories so far. The world number 42 has struggled for form in recent weeks but is through to her third WTA quarter-final of the season and looks a strong candidate to at least reach the final here in Budapest. In her way is Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova, who upset fifth-seed Ana Bogdan on Wednesday to reach her first quarter-final on tour since 2019. The pair have one win apiece, with a victory each on hard courts back in 2018 on the Asian swing, and that leaves this third meeting finely poised. However, Putintseva remains the favourite to overcome Koslova as the outright winner here.
