THE PREDICTION
World number 95 Anhelina Kalinina is the surprise entrant to the Hungarian Grand Prix final after Danielle Collins was forced to retire from their semi-final on Saturday. The 24-year-old Ukrainian was in control against Collins before the American retired to go four matches without dropping a set in Budapest. Kalinina has been successful on the ITF tour this year and no matter the result in this final in a first meeting with Yulia Putintseva, she looks like one to watch for the rest of the season. In this first tour-level encounter between the two it would take one of Kalinina’s best-ever results to win a first WTA title, though she did beat Angelique Kerber in the first round of Roland-Garros last month. World number 42 Putintseva is in pole position to win her second WTA title after two tough three-set wins over Kateryna Kozlova and Dalma Galfi but those results suggest there is a set in this for Kalinina. This is a difficult one to call so perhaps taking it to see three sets is the best option here, though Putintseva should be lifting this title.
