THE PREDICTION
Three straight-set victories in a row for world number seven Andrey Rublev at an ATP 500 event is more like it for the young Russian after a difficult clay season so far this year. The 23-year-old’s return to grass has immediately brought his confidence back up to scratch and his record at this level makes him the favourite to lift the Halle Open title on Sunday. In his way is world number 30 Nikoloz Basilashvili, who looks to have opted to come through the qualifiers at Halle to gain more grass-court matches and that has paid off well. The Georgian beat in-form Lloyd Harris on Friday but Rublev is a big step up in ability and the Russian has won their last two encounters to level their head-to-head record at 2-2. Both players are looking good and Basilashvili gets better the further he gets in a draw – enough to opt for an outright win for Rublev here instead of what should end up a straight-set win.
