THE PREDICTION
This should be a wonderfully old school match-up on grass between hard-hitters Kevin Anderson and Jack Sock. Eighth seed Anderson suffered a poor draw at Wimbledon as he faced eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the second round before he could get going but the big South African has an excellent opportunity at a seventh career title this week if he can stay fit. The 35-year-old is yet to drop a set in wins over Ilya Marchenko and Sebastian Ofner but a returning Jack Sock will pose an unknowable threat as the American recovers from his latest injury. Two wins over Alex Bolt and then the third seed Yoshihito Nishioka is good going for the 28-year-old after a successful stint on the Challenger circuit this season, including a title at Little Rock back in June. The pair share a head-to-head record finely poised at 2-2 apiece but with Sock’s level improving and Anderson’s fitness always a huge question mark these days this match could go either way. Take Anderson to win at least a set as the likelier winner here but realistically this is best left alone.
