German Open fifth seed Belinda Bencic is back on a surface that suits her best and she put in a solid performance against Croatia’s Petra Martic to win in straight sets on Thursday. The Swiss is currently ranked at world number 12 but struggling to match that level for consistency right now and she would benefit greatly from a deeper run here ahead of Wimbledon in two weeks’ time. In her way is Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova after the world number 34 took out second-seed Elina Svitolina in straight sets on Thursday and this should be a really enjoyable fourth meeting between the pair. 26-year-old Alexandrova has been in the better form this season and leads their head-to-head record 2-1, including a won on grass at the Eastbourne International back in 2019. Take the Russian to win at least a set here in a result that could go either way.
