35-year-old Pablo Cuevas has raced through from the qualifiers to the quarter-finals without dropping a set at the Geneva Open, with a particularly eye-opening win over Italian Open semi-finalist Reilly Opelka on Tuesday. The Uruguayan will face now 30-year-old Grigor Dimitrov for a fifth time in their careers having won their only clay-court match in Istanbul six years ago to trail in a 3-1 head-to-head record. World number 20 Dimitrov overcame an in-form Ilya Ivashka in relatively comfortable circumstances and the Bulgarian should have more than enough to weather this purple patch Cuevas is showing this week. Dimitrov’s 2021 form, however, leaves plenty to be desired and that could see Cuevas force a decider here. Take the veteran clay-court specialist to win at least a set in this one.
