The third seed here in Geneva eventually came through his round of 16 match in straight sets and will face Dominik Koepfer for the first time with the German a strong clay-court competitor who came through Feliciano Lopez in three. World number 54 Koepfer has battled through two tough three-setters now and had he met Ruud this morning he could have been picked for an upset here but his chances look slimmer at this stage. 22-year-old Ruud looks the outside favourite for the title here with Dominic Thiem his likeliest challenger for that so take the Nord to win outright here, probably in two.
