World number 12 Pablo Carreno Busta fell behind against French qualifier Enzo Coaucaud on Wednesday evening but the Spaniard rallied well to come through a tricky match in four. The 29-year-old will certainly be the fresher of the two when he faces Steve Johnson for a fifth time in their careers after the American reached the third round via his second-straight five-set slog. World number 88 Johnson fought back from two sets down to beat fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the first round and was part of a topsy-turvy exchange with Thiago Monteiro on Wednesday before winning the decider in strong fashion. The 31-year-old is tied on two wins apiece with Carreno Busta in their head-to-head but the Spaniard is the stronger player on this surface and that could be the difference in what looks like another long match. PCB in three would be the pick in normal service but Johnson’s incredible grit this week makes that look less likely, so take PCB as the outright winner here.
