THE PREDICTION

World number 29 Fabio Fognini means business here at Roland-Garros and has a large and loyal following in Paris that dragged him through the first set of his second-round match against Marton Fucsovics. Eventually the 34-year-old came through comfortably enough in his second straight-sets win of the tournament and he will be the slight favourite for the result here against Federico Delbonis now. World number 51 Delbonis is playing some of the best tennis of his career this clay season and was patient in taking out Pablo Andujar, Dominic Thiem’s vanquisher, over five gruelling sets on Wednesday. The Argentine has made the quarter-finals of three of his last four tournaments, including the semi-finals of the Belgrade 2 Open last week, and his momentum should be able to frustrate Fognini at moments of this match. Fognini leads their head-to-head record 5-2 but there has only been one straight-sets result from those seven. Delbonis is strong enough to take something here, so opt for a Fognini outright win or for the Argentine to take at least a set.
