This should be an enjoyable all-Italian affair on Thursday with world number 19 Jannik Sinner facing number 87 Gianluca Mager for the first time. 19-year-old Sinner played an incredible five-set marathon match with Pierre-Hugues Herbert on Monday which could end up benefitting the teenager in the long run. However, 26-year-old Mager is perhaps the better player on clay at this moment in time and he will likely try to bring Sinner forward after Herbert exploited him so well at the net. Sinner’s form has been strong all season but he has sometimes lapsed in concentration when on top of things and that makes picking him for three sets here a poor choice. He is well capable of straight sets but it is best to opt for an outright win here as Mager is a positive, gritty competitor.
