THE PREDICTION
36-year-old John Isner has been selective with his calendar this season but he holds a 4-1 record on clay so far after an excellent campaign at the Madrid Open saw him beat Roberto Bautista Agut and Andrey Rublev. The world number 34 beat fellow American Sam Querrey in straight sets on Monday as expected but he will face a tougher test here against world number 41 Filip Krajinovic. The Serb is a seasoned clay specialist but won the only previous meeting with Isner on a hard court in the semi-finals of the 2017 Paris Masters to make this rematch in Paris interesting indeed. 29-year-old Krajinovic also came through his first round match in three sets on Monday and with both players’ seeing a tiebreak in their matches that looks a useful alternative to the result here. If pushed for a winner it should be John Isner seeing the third round but take this match to see at least one tiebreak and leave a winner up to chance.
