THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Diego Schwartzman enjoyed a comfortable start to his 2021 Roland-Garros campaign with a straight-sets victory over Yen-Hsun Lu but this will be an altogether tougher test for the Argentine. Schwartzman has struggled for consistency all season despite winning his fourth ATP title in Buenos Aires earlier this year but the 28-year-old should be targeting the quarter-finals at least in Paris as one of the more gifted clay-court specialists around. 31-year-old Aljaz Bedene is in good form, though, and took out an out-of-sorts Adrian Mannarino in four sets on Tuesday to reach the second round. The world number 56 leads their head-to-head record 2-1 after wins over Schwartzman in Nottingham and the aforementioned Buenos Aires Open in 2018, though Schwartzman returned the favour a year later to leave their clay record at one win apiece. This match looks unlikely to fall in three and an alternative option to the result is for Bedene to win at least a set in his current form. However, the safer option is to opt for Schwartzman as the outright winner here.
