World number 23 Cristian Garin has had a rough time of it so far at Roland-Garros, playing 13 sets in just three matches to reach the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time. It was always likely to be the French Open where the 25-year-old broke into the last 16 as the Chilean is a real talent on this surface, proven by his five ATP titles at clay tournaments including this year’s Chile Open. Garin beat world number two Daniil Medvedev in their recent battle at the Madrid Open after the Russian went up a set but that was Medvedev’s first tournament back from covid-19 and he has vastly improved since then. Medvedev, also 25, beat an in-form Reilly Opelka in straight sets on Friday and he looks to have put his differences with this surface aside for the big occasion. Take Garin to win at least a set here or take Medvedev to win at least two, with this result a tough one to pick an outright winner for.
