After back-to-back five-set slogs the universe smiled on 31-year-old Kei Nishikori when his third round opponent Henri Laaksonen sadly had to retire from the match after the first set. World number 49 Nishikori will be fresher now but faces an uphill struggle next as he prepares to take on world number six Alexander Zverev for a third time this year. 24-year-old Zverev was the winner of both meetings on clay with Nishikori this season, at the Madrid Open in straight sets and in three at the subsequent Italian Open, and the German will be confident of making it three in a row to extend his current 4-1 lead in their head-to-head. After a wobbly start to his Roland-Garros campaign Zverev has grown into the tournament and won his last two matches back-to-back but Nishikori is in good enough form to take at least a set here. Take Zverev to win and both players to earn a set in this exciting late game on Saturday night.
