THE PREDICTION
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas is probably the favourite to reach the final from his half of the draw but the 22-year-old faces a tough early test in home favourite Jeremy Chardy. 34-year-old Chardy has enjoyed one of his best seasons on tour in terms of performances and it is a real shame from his and French fans’ point of view that he has met the most in-form player this year in Tsitsipas so early. Chardy beat Tsitsipas in their first meeting back in 2018 but since then the Greek has become a genuine Grand Slam competitor and no matter how well the Frenchman has played in 2021 it seems unlikely he will be able to take a set here. Tsitsipas in straight-sets is one option here but a useful alternative would be to combine Tsitsipas as outright winner and one tiebreak in the match, with both players involved in plenty this season already.
