THE PREDICTION
30-year-old Ricardas Berankis has struggled for form in 2021 but the Lithuanian can often turn things on for a Grand Slam and he will be a tricky first round tie for Ugo Humbert. The Frenchman will be a home favourite this fortnight but he too has struggled so far in 2021 after blossoming towards the end of last season on hard courts. The 22-year-old still has plenty of developing to do but when he is playing his best he can be a thorn in the side of the very best players on tour and he should have more than enough to overcome Berankis here in their first meeting. Humbert is on a four-match losing streak stretching back to the Estoril Open, though, so an outright pick here as winner is the safest option.
