THE PREDICTION
American qualifier Jenson Brooksby is a new name to watch out for this season and he should play without fear in this tough Roland-Garros debut against world number 26 Aslan Karatsev. 27-year-old Karatsev stormed through to the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in February to break onto the scene in the most astounding way and the Russian won his first ATP title soon after at the Dubai Open. So far it seems Karatsev’s unorthodox game is better-suited to a hard court but he has still beaten Novak Djokovic on clay this year in an incredible three-set marathon back at the Serbia Open to show for his effectiveness on this surface. Brooksby is an unknown here but he has shocked in the first round of a major before after knocking out Tomas Berdych at the 2019 US Open. Still, Karatsev should have enough to win this first meeting in straight-sets.
