27-year-old Jordan Thompson is on a three-match losing streak on clay, a surface he would likely admit to not being his favourite, but the Aussie can often thrive in five-set matches and he will play without pressure here unlike his opponent. World number 72 Jaume Munar is playing some of his best tennis so far on clay this season, reaching the Andalucia Open final last month and the semi-finals of last week’s Emilia-Romagna Open via wins over the likes of Fabio Fognini and Carlos Alcaraz. 24-year-old Munar should be the favourite for this first meeting with Thompson but this match looks likely to see at least four sets and if over 3 sets is an option, take it.
