THE PREDICTION
This is a pretty tough call between 31-year-old Guido Pella and qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan as Pella won their first meeting via a five-set epic in the 2018 Davis Cup group stages and, on paper, should do so again here but the Argentine has struggled badly all season with form and fitness. Pella has won just two matches this year, one of them via an injury for his opponent, and he has pulled out from two of his last three matches himself. 24-year-old Galan will relish this occasion on his favoured surface after reaching the third round here last October to post his best showing by some margin at a Grand Slam. Usually an all-South American five-setter is a vastly exciting spectacle but there is a big chance that Pella fails to finish this first round match and for that reason it is worth leaving alone in the markets. Galan has the edge here on form and fitness, though, and should win if they get to the end of it.
