Home favourite Gael Monfils will attract a large crowd on Tuesday for his first round match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas in a match-up with some history behind it. World number 15 Monfils leads Ramos-Vinolas 4-2 in their head-to-head record since their first meeting a decade ago and, interestingly, they are at one win apiece on clay in that span. World number 38 Ramos-Vinolas recently won his third title on clay with the Estoril Open last month and the Spaniard has been in some excellent form on his favoured surface, whilst 34-year-old Monfils has struggled since his return form injury. The French showman’s first win since March 2020 came at the Lyon Open two weeks ago today and that could count for something with the crowd behind him but this looks a tough ask against the Spaniard. This match should see at least four sets so take over three as an option if it is available but otherwise Ramos-Vinolas to win outright seems the likeliest way this swings.
