THE PREDICTION
World number 48 Qiang Wang is a strong competitor on clay and she totally dominated Croatia’s Petra Martic in their only previous meeting, 6-1, 6-1 at the French Open in 2018. 29-year-old Wang will face a different test now, though, as world number 23 Martic comes off the back of an excellent week at the Italian Open where she was just edged out of the semi-finals by Karolina Pliskova. Since then the 30-year-old has not suffered a lapse in form with back-to-back straight-sets wins to make this stage in Parma and this should be an outright win for the Croat whether or not she concedes her first set this campaign. Qiang Wang is always competitive but is unfortunate to meet the second seed here in such strong form. Take Martic as outright winner here, or as a straight-sets victor for a riskier pick.
