THE PREDICTION
World number 53 Caroline Garcia beat Anna-Lena Friedsam in a comfortable straight-sets performance on Wednesday morning to reach the quarter-finals of the Emilia-Romagna Open. She will face a much tougher prospect next, though in world number 68 Katerina Siniakova who took out the first seed Serena Williams in style on Tuesday. The pair have met on five previous occasions, although not since 2018 where Siniakova edged ahead 3-2 in their head-to-head record with a three-set win at the Wuhan Open. With both players enjoying strong campaigns so far this looks a really difficult result to side with but Siniakova’s defeat of world number eight Williams is mightily impressive and that momentum should see her through here, particularly as Garcia has struggled with her form this year so far.
