World number 30 Coco Gauff continues to climb up the WTA rankings with stupendous performances. The 17-year-old took her Italian Open form straight into the Emilia-Romagna Open with back-to-back straight-sets wins over Kaia Kanepi and Camila Giorgi to reach the quarter-finals here as the third seed. Gauff will face fifth-seed and fellow American teenager Amanda Anisimova for the first time here for what should be a match full of quality and a real advert for the vastly talented “next gen” in the WTA. 19-year-old Anisimova has also made this stage of the tournament without dropping a set and the world number 40’s backhand is something to fear and admire in equal measure here but at this time the clay court is Gauff’s plaything versus players outside the top 10. Gauff beat world number seven Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari and Yulia Putintseva last week in Rome and that form should be enough to win what should be an exciting match here.
